At Shooter’s Finest, we are students of military history and proud of Canada’s military, both of today and years gone past. As the Veterans of the Second World War get older, their numbers grow fewer, and the world of today is a far different place than what they returned to after the war. What was once a common and accepted practice of handing down a rifle or pistol used by a family member during the war, is now a highly regulated federal matter with fewer licensed firearms owners now than 60 years ago. In an all-too-common practice today, a Veteran passes away, his wife or children or grand-children clean out his residence and find an old-World War II rifle or pistol. They want to keep it for family sentimental reasons, but no one in the family has a federally issued Canadian Firearms License. As a result, more often than not, the rifle or pistol is turned into the local police and is sent for destruction. However, at Shooter’s Finest we are federally approved for deactivating firearms to the most up to date standards as issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Firearms Center. While taking a piece of Canadian or military history and forever altering it to a state that it will never fire again as it once did is not our first choice when dealing with historical artifacts, we would rather deactivate so that a family can retain it for sentimental reasons, than see it turned into manhole covers or razor blades. Deactivated firearms are also a great option for military re-enactors who attend military displays to educate the public on Canada’s role in recent conflicts around the world.
